tow gold class, meh
ACA received two “gold class” tickets along with a food voucher. What is gold class? It is basically what equals to a first class seat in an air plane, but for movie theatres. You skip the line and go to the “gold class” line. Then you flash those gold class tickets to the ticket person and “right this way” you are ushered to the gold class lounge, complete with chairs tables and bars. “Welcome to Gold Class” says the lady dressed in black and hands you menus. ACA was wondering how we were going to spend the $30 voucher, and one look a the menu, I started wondering if we can have popcorn for both of us. Cheese platters, $400 bottle of wine, cakes, some sort of mushroom dish. We settled on a $12 Churros and equally expensive popcorn with coke and I got a latte. Then the lady asked when we would like our food delivered, towards the beginning, in the middle or towards the end? We had an hour to kill before the movie started so we went back out of the gold class lounge back to the theatre and back to the shopping centre. I ordered a pad thai from some Asian place and ACA got his charcoal chicken (with left overs with Hermoine!) We returned to the movie theatre, passed the normal people area and into the “gold class exclusive lounge.” We informed the lady in black we have ordered our food, and we were lead to the gold class screening area. As we settled in to the recliners (there are 20 seats in this room) the lady asked if I would like a blanket. At this point I was doing my utmost to hold my giggles. There is a table in between the seats, complete with a hole to hold your $400 wine bottle and a call button should you feel the desire to order another ridiculously priced item from the movie. The whole “gold class experience” left me feeling completely out of place, and then 10 minutes into the movie the food arrived. The waiter lady crouched down trying to place the plate on to the table between the seats, I felt uncomfortable. I don’t like the whole being served to idea. Thankfully that was the end of the gold class treatment and I was able to watch the movie in peace. Once the gold class experience song and dance is over I have enjoyed the movie. The seats were very, very comfy and it reclined fully. the screen was just the right size and distance and the sound was great. We watched the Iron Man. It was alright. I thought it was a too long for my taste and they did play it pretty fast and loose with physics and gun mechanics. I did enjoy Ms. Paltrow’s performance. How she managed to walk on those heels is beyond me!
I didn’t do anything crafty yesterday and I am feeling withdrawals! I have lots of projects floating around in my head that needs to be done, maybe I should write them down!

tow I have two last names
I went out to get the mail today and I found three pieces of mail, all for me. I’ve been in Australia for seven months now and I am now receiving mail in my name. It might like seem like much, but it makes me feel like I belong. One letter is from library telling me how much they deposited to my bank account, yay! The other two is from the afore mentioned bank account. When I decided to keep my maiden name and add the hubby’s last name to it I thought there might be some problems. Under the Turkish law the only way I can keep my maiden name is to add my husband’s last name to mine. So if I was “Kelebek mylastname” before the name would become “Mavi Mylastname Husbandslastname” You can no hypenate the two last names together to make it simpler. I could get a name change but I already have my passport, “nufus cuzdani” marriage documents etc etc under this name. To add to the confusion I don’t have a middle name, which makes “mylastname” part of the last name look like it is my middle name. Confused yet? I very clearly pointed out at the bank the two last name situation, yet they managed to screw it up! I have to go to the bank with my ID to get it fixed, can’t be fixed over the phone!
I added the fringe (as requested) to my mother-in-laws shawl. The shawl took a bath in the sink and ton of black dye came out, not fun for my sink or my hands. Right now it is blocking on the floor of the back bedroom. I went a bit crazy pinning it down, but I really want the lace to open up. ACA says it looks like an eagle, no mister it is a “butterfly wing shawl!” I will take a photo before I unpin it, I wonder how long it’ll take to dry.

tow move
I felt I needed a fresh start in the blogging world so here it is!
I work in the public library now, as “casual.” It means that I have no set hours, I go in as they need me. A bit like being on call. I applied for a permanent position which I didn’t get, but I was offered the casual position.
It is nice to be working again, even if I have unpredictable hours. It gets me out of the house and gets me interacting with people. I really enjoy working in the library. It is pretty similar to my previous job in the used book store. I don’t have to do as much shelving and most of my time working is spent at the circulation desk, checking returned items in, signing people up for computers and checking items out for people. The library has collections in languages other than English. There is a nice selection of Turkish materials as well. You can check out DVD’s, magazines, books and children’s books in Turkish. I do act the translator as needed, it does feel good to help! I think once I get my name tag (with my obviously Turkish name) people would know for sure I am Turkish.
I have been getting a lot of comments on my accent. A little old Irish lady asked me if it was Irish! I get Canadian sometimes (not too far off) but most people figure it is American. “Where are you from?” I got my reply down to a pat “I was born in Turkey, raised in America and I’ve been in Australia for seven months” It is strange to get comments on my accent. I more or less blended in when I lived in the US.
On the crafting front I’ve been very productive! I just finished knitting ACA a new hat. He picked out the yarn and the pattern. The pattern I used is called “A hat fit for a boyfriend” It turned out very nice. I cast on 60 stitches instead of the 100 pattern recommended because I used 12 ply yarn. I will get him to model the hat when he comes home.
I am working on the second sock for my first ever sock knitting adventure. It is coming along so nicely! This is what it looked like when I first started working on it
I am following the pattern from Silver’s Sock Class called “Toe up sock on two circular needles” Well I am using the magic loop for most of it, so it’s not on two circular needles most of the time. I did transfer the stitches back to two circulars when I turned the heel.
And here I am knitting the second pair while ACA ate his lunch. You can see the magic loop in action!
I have finished my mother-in-law’s shawl, I just have to add fringe to it. Hermoine the cat got into my knitting bag and decided that the yarn must be strewn all over the house floor instead of sitting as a nicely wrapped yarn cake. I wounded it up all the ends together (she attacked it from the center pull and the regular pull end!!) but I need to wind it properly so I can cut it to make fringes.
The other project I am working on is the wave scarf. I recently bought this beautiful blue-white cotton yarn that was waiting to be knit. I decided that I needed a scarf and found the wavy pattern from knitty.

I have promised to knit a sock for my father-in-law. He is due for something since I crochet a shawl and a stole for my mother-in-law already! I bought the yarn when ACA and I went to the city last week. I am thinking of doing a 3-1 rib for the top of the sock and then after turning the hell continue in the rib for the rest of the sock. I have lots of baby clothes lined up as well. I will get to those, eventually!
Hermoine says “hi”
